Blu-ray

The Blu-ray format is the first optical format that is capable of delivering high-definition video AND high-definition audio. It was developed by Sony and won the format war, besting HD-DVD a few years ago. Adoption rates are quite high as the machines became affordable. Blu-ray and its extended version the Blu-ray 3D format, is probably the last physical format. The migration to purely digital means of distribution and increase in wireless bandwidth is making portable media consumption the norm.
