AIX Records: Post Fire Update
Yesterday was Friday March 21, 2025. It was Johann Sebastien Bach’s 340th birthday. My favorite composer among the giants that we study, we enjoy, we analyze, and some of us perform. It just so happens it was my birthday as well. I turned 72 years old yesterday! Years ago, when I first learned that Bach and I shared the same birthday, I knew we had a special connection. Since I first starting playing his first invention, I was hooked. The complexity and intellectual sophistication of his counterpoint and harmonies are sublime. His music works wonders.
I never thought I would be “celebrating” 72 years of time on this planet but despite three three bouts with cancer (including stage 4 cancer of the thyroid), I’m still here. The last few years have wrought some amazing changes in my life. Many of you have followed how my life has been transformed and reached out. I thank you all. Just this morning, I got a call from Bill Sweet of the Chicago Audio Society asking whether I would be exhibiting at the upcoming AXPONA show. I let him know that my days of selling my wares and giving seminars at trade shows were over. The AXPONA show was started by my friends Steve and Carmen Davis. I was there at the very opening bell. However, after the show was sold and the reins given corporate and not music types, the show lost its mojo — at least for me. They kept raising the prices — to the point where I couldn’t make a profit after investing the time and resources to exhibit at the show. I do miss it. I enjoyed demoing my recordings and sharing my expertise with everyone who attended. I still think we set up some of the best sounding rooms ever experienced at show.
During the past few years, I’ve serviced all sales of my discs – both DVDs and Blu-rays – from my house. The same house that was destroyed in the recent fire. The Army Core of Engineers trucked all of the debris away over the past couple of days and scraped 6″ of soil beyond that. My property has returned to a vacant lot ready for rebuilding. I’m actually looking forward to designing and building the new, replacement house. It will be a large project but I like projects. They keep me focused and productive.
AIX Records Discs (DVDs and Blu-rays): Going Forward
I lost a lot of AIX Records inventory in the fire. I kept most of the best selling discs at home and therefore cannot currently fulfill new orders for certain popular discs. However, I devised a plan of action that should keep AIX customers happy. I have taken inventory of all of the discs that survived the fire because they were upstairs at the studio AND I have reached out to my distributor and requested they send me a single copy of those discs I do not have. I’m not sure how long it will take to get the missing discs from Naxos in Nashville, but I received confirmation they are working on it.
In the meantime, I am in the process of cloning all of the discs that I do have. I use ripping software to create an .ISO image and then have the ability to burn a DVD-R or BD-R for new orders. They don’t have the fancy silkscreen or packaging (I lost all of the print masters) but they do play.
So here are the options for new AIX Records purchases:
- Purchase the tracks as digital downloads from iTrax.com
- Order discs that remain in inventory (see list below)
- Receive DVD-R or BD-R copies of the products without the original printed packaging.
